BCD advances real-time travel data distribution

UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS – BCD Travel has reached a milestone in its work with Amadeus and Sabre to modernize travel data distribution across the corporate travel ecosystem. The company has begun a platform-wide transition from queue-based data collection to cloud-based data streaming. Consequently, the approach aims to provide a faster, more scalable foundation for traveler servicing, operational consistency and automation.

Transition from queues to real-time data streaming

For decades, travel management companies have used queue-based systems to identify and process changes in passenger name records. Although this approach supports established workflows, systems must retrieve and process information after it enters a queue.

Instead, BCD has advocated a model that publishes relevant travel events through secure data streams. Systems supporting travelers, agents and corporate clients can then consume these events more readily. According to BCD, its advocacy has helped accelerate the industry’s transition to event-driven data delivery.

John Palomino, Senior Vice President, Core Systems and Enterprise Development at BCD

John Palomino, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Development at BCD, said: “By merging our expertise in technology, travel data and traveler servicing with our Amadeus and Sabre partnerships, we’ve collectively worked to modernize processes”. He added: “For years, travel data worked like checking your mailbox over and over to see whether a package had arrived. Streaming changes that. It’s like getting an instant notification the moment it’s delivered.”

Corporate travel servicing and traveler visibility

The approach aims to accelerate disruption management by sending changes and cancellations directly into BCD’s TripSource platform. As a result, travel agents and automated workflows can respond sooner and notify travelers more quickly.

Furthermore, combining NDC and EDIFACT data can reduce duty-of-care blind spots. It can also give travel managers a more current view of traveler locations. Meanwhile, servicing teams can access updated booking information, helping reduce duplication and errors.

More timely data can also improve visibility into corporate travel spending and activity. Therefore, travel managers can access information without waiting for batch data extracts.

Amadeus and Sabre expand streaming capabilities

Francesca Benati, Senior Vice President of Global Travel Sellers at Amadeus, said: “Real-time data distribution is transforming the way travel companies connect, collaborate and deliver value. Through our close collaboration with BCD and a shared vision for a more connected travel ecosystem, we have accelerated the introduction of streaming capabilities that enable faster, richer, and more responsive interactions across the travel value chain. Together, we are helping advance the next generation of travel technology, delivering greater efficiency, agility and innovation for BCD and the wider travel industry.”

Francesca Benati and Dirk Guenther

Dirk Guenther, Vice President of Product Management at Sabre, said: “Travel moves in real time, and the systems behind it have to keep pace”. He added: “BCD shares our conviction that open platforms move the industry forward faster. By co-developing real-time data orchestration, we’re giving BCD and its clients the ability to act on signals the moment they happen, from smarter servicing to faster responses when trips shift. We’re excited to see these new capabilities add to the foundation for BCD’s next generation of AI-driven travel solutions and intelligent automation.”

Pilot phase and global implementation

The capability is currently undergoing pilot testing. It aims to support BCD’s global operations through centralized data consumption across relevant points of sale.

As Amadeus and Sabre expand their streaming capabilities, BCD expects the approach to improve the speed, consistency and scalability of travel data use across its client services. The initiative also supports the company’s development of future automation and AI-driven travel solutions.
