On Wednesday, 19 January, this year’s FITUR travel and tourism fair opens in Madrid with an impressive Iberia stand featuring the airline’s focus on sustainability, a new on-board experience for passengers, the new uniforms to be introduced in the spring, and the latest digital services and solutions for customers.

More Sustainable Flights

The 600 sq.m Iberia stand is made of paper, cotton rope, recycled fabric, and live plants, denoting the airline’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Sustainability will be a major concern of the aviation industry in 2022 and beyond, and at it FITUR stand Iberia points out last year’s achievements, including the first flight using locally produced biofuels made from waste and the installation of solar panels covering the gigantic roof of its maintenance hangar and which make the airline’s Madrid airport installations energy independent. Future plans are in place to attain the goal of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050, as set, including work on the development of sustainable aviation fuel.

This preview includes the opportunity to sample the cuisine to be offered to Business and Premium Economy class passengers. The tasting takes place inside a cloth mock-up of an   aircraft cabin.

Designed by the DO & CO catering company, the new food service is based on the Mediterranean diet, using high-quality seasonal ingredients. The service includes a new range of appetizers, and more entrée and dessert options.

In Economy class on short- and medium-haul flights, Iberia will relaunch on-board sales of drinks and snacks, along with the new Deliverfly service allowing passengers to order fresh food before boarding, a system intended to reduce waste.

The most novel of Iberia’s new digital services is Digital Concierge, a system enabling passengers to personalise their travel experience, customising food, entertainment, and other choices.

Visitors to the stand may also taste the distinguished regional Spanish wines selected for on-board tippling later this year, and which are also available in Iberia’s VIP lounges.

New uniforms

In June Iberia’s flight and airport staff will be wearing new uniforms by the Catalonian fashion designer Teresa Helbig

The elegant and comfortable new uniforms feature shades of blue, red, yellow, and beige, and are designed to convey Iberia’s values of excellence, modernity, proximity, and helpfulness.

Also on display at the stand is a collection of all Iberia’s past uniforms, designed by such noted couturiers as Pertegaz and Elio Berhanyer.
