The addition of a nonstop route to Japan is part of EL AL’s general strategy to expand its destination network to accommodate the growing demand in Israel for outgoing flights and the increase in incoming tourism to Israel, as the airline’s fleet undergoes renewal. Recently, EL AL launched routes to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando (during the summer months), Nice and Manchester. Nonstop flights to Chicago will also begin operations in 2020. This is in conjunction with the renewal of EL AL’s fleet with new Dreamliner aircraft, numbering at present 11 aircraft and to increase to 16 by March 2020.
The demand to add Japan as a tourism and commercial destination has grown greatly in recent years. Some 40,000 Israelis visited Japan in 2018 and some 20,000 Japanese visited Israel. The sale of tickets for EL AL’s nonstop flights from Tel Aviv to Tokyo is beginning approximately one year before the opening of Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020
EL AL Vice President Commercial and Industry Affairs Michael Strassburge said: “We are excited about opening ticket sales for EL AL nonstop flights to/ from Tokyo. The decision to open the nonstop route to Japan was taken following increasing demand from our customers, and we can now offer a nonstop flight experience on 787 Dreamliner aircraft on flights to the land of the rising sun. The new route will enable us to promote and develop Japanese tourism to Israel as well as to expose Japanese citizens to Israel’s rich culture, history and to Israel’s unique landscapes. The opening of the nonstop route to Japan, in particular next year when the Olympic Games are to be held there, is expected to increase traffic and significantly strengthen

economic and political ties between Israel and Japan.”
Also, the airline will begin operating nonstop flights to Dublin, capital of Ireland, on May 26, 2020 and to Dusseldorf, Germany, on June 1, 2020. EL AL will offer three weekly nonstop flights to Dublin on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and to Dusseldorf on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The flights will operate on Boeing 737 aircraft with Economy and Business service classes Dusseldorf joins three additional destinations in Germany on the EL AL map – Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin – thus extending the range of operations to 36 weekly flights to Germany, beginning in June 2020. Sales of flight tickets to the new destinations will begin September 4, 2019.
EL AL Vice President Commercial and Industry Affairs Michael Strassburger: “We are working continually to expand the airline’s route network. To provide a suitable solution for the demands of our business customers as well as for outgoing Israeli traffic, and at the same time to strengthen incoming traffic to Israel, we will offer nonstop flights to Dublin and Dusseldorf, beginning summer 2020. Dublin is an activity base for hi-tech companies and Dusseldorf regularly hosts a great number of international congresses and fairs. We believe that opening new routes will increase business ties and tourism to Israel and will strengthen political ties with the countries.”
