In celebration of Valentine’s Day holiday experts present dreamy destinations for smitten winter sports fans. Germany’s largest winter sports tour operator, SnowTrex presents the best romantic couple’s holiday destinations in celebration of Valentine’s Day on 14 February as well as tips that you may need to know before you start your trip.
SnowTrex says that snow fans in love will feel right at home in the winter sports country of Austria. For example, one could consider the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, one of the largest interconnected ski areas in Austria, which SnowTrex’s “trexpert” Felix Neureuther recommends. Here, over 280 km of piste are waiting to be conquered.
Besides skiing and snowboarding, the region invites you to explore its snow-covered landscape via horse-drawn carriage or sled (1 hour from approx. £9 per person). For those who wish to make their partner’s eyes more than sparkle, take a trip to the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens (entrance £16 per person) together or head over to Kufstein, Kitzbühel or Innsbruck.
Accommodation tip: With its gorgeous location in the middle of the fascinating mountain panorama of the Wilder Kaiser, the 4* Sporthotel Tirolerhof in Itter makes for an ideal accommodation for both connoisseurs and active couples alike. The ski bus stops directly at the hotel and arrives at the lift in just a few minutes. Those who would rather be pampered can relax in the bath and spa landscape with activity showers, thermarium steam bath, indoor pool with a panoramic view of the Wilder Kaiser and much more. In the evenings, a delectable, candlelit farmer’s buffet lets lovers leave the world around them behind.
Paris, the city of love, sensitive chansons and ballads, exquisite dining – the French count as true experts in all things romantic. It’s no wonder then that the hearts of winter sports fans beat a little faster in places like the ski area of Les Sybelles, with more than 300 km of incredibly diverse pistes. A truly unique experience here is dog sledding: pulled by six to eight huskies, you’ll nearly fly on your sled through the glittering winter wonderland. Offers can be found nearby in Le Corbier or La Toussuire (1 hour from approx. £51 per person). For those who have room for a few more butterflies in their stomach can fill the spaces with a tandem paragliding flight starting from the peak of Corbier (1 hour from approx. £60 per person). Couples up on Cloud 9 who would like to keep their feet on the ground can speed race the pistes instead on a Ski-Doo (1 hour from approx. £13 per person).
Accommodation tip: Wake up, strap up and head straight on to the piste when staying at the 4* chalet-apartments Les Alpages du Corbier in Le Corbier. It’s just 15 meters from the accommodation to the piste, and 50 meters to the lift. Shopping facilities for the self-sufficient can also be found just a few minutes away on foot. The best feeling for the snow-obsessed and enamoured, however, is a dip in the heated outdoor pool pratically next to the piste.
Naturally, “Bella Italia”, the home of Romeo & Juliet, can’t be left out when it comes to love and passion. The South Tyrolean Dolomites, with their splendid world heritage sites, provide the ideal destination for those who are head over heels. Skiers and snowboarders can expect to find about a good 100 km of fun on the piste at the Plan de Corones, Southern Tyrol’s No. 1 ski mountain. A true paradise for cross-country fans is the nearby Antholz, where the annual biathlon world championship takes place. The biathlon and cross-country centre in Antholz offers over 60 km of trails with varying levels of difficulty. Heading straight through the middle of the magnificent winter landscape, winter sports fans venture out over the frozen Antholzer See up to the foot of the Staller pass, where breathtaking scenery of the massive, distant mountains appear almost within reach. In the biathlon stadium, curious couples can try to hit the targets regardless of their heart-shaped glasses (1 hour private lesson from approx. £43 per person / all-day lesson from approx. £95 per person)
Accommodation tip: The 3* Hotel Brötz in Rasen Antholz is perfect for couples who like things cosy while at the same time like to discover the region around them. The hotel’s own ski bus, which comes by every 15 minutes, brings you to the Plan de Corones Ski Carousel located just a few kilometres away. The biathlon and cross-country centre in Antholz also has a regular connection available. The hotel itself provides for deep relaxation with a toasty indoor activity pool with waterfall, a jacuzzi as well as various saunas among other facilities.
