Commune Hotels & Resorts Expanding with Joie De Vivre Brand

SAN FRANCISCO—Commune Hotels & Resorts is bringing its native California brand, Joie de Vivre Hotels, cross-country as part of a national expansion.

The addition of two Joie de Vivre hotels in primary gateway cities will establish the brand’s foothold on the East Coast, adding to its existing presence in Hawaii, the Midwest, Southwest and West Coast regions.
An extensive restoration effort of a storied hotel and a new-construction development will give rise to the brand at The Hall in Miami Beach and at 50 Bowery in New York City’s Bowery neighborhood.

“The growth of Joie de Vivre Hotels from coast to coast is a testament to its success in resonating with guests and local communities for nearly 30 years,” stated Niki Leondakis, CEO, Commune Hotels & Resorts. “Creating hotels that offer guests memorable, neighborhood-driven experiences is a defining quality of Joie de Vivre Hotels. As the brand evolves—and restaurants and bars become increasingly important touch-points for travelers—we are investing in locally relevant culinary offerings and talented chefs that embody the spirit and energy of the communities where our hotels are located.”
The Joie de Vivre Hotels brand currently includes 25 properties throughout Illinois, Arizona, California and Hawaii.

Originally designed by architect L. Murray Dixon, The Hall sits in Miami Beach’s Art Deco District at 15th St. and Collins Ave., steps from pedestrian mall Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater and the New World Symphony.

Miami-based architectural firm ADD Inc. and interior design firm Robert McKinley Creative will renew the Miami Beach national landmark, which includes the primary building and adjacent apartment complex. The developers, hoteliers, architects and designers will enrich The Hall’s protected Art Deco features with stylish design and Latin American influences to create a welcoming environment.
The new 164-room Joie de Vivre Miami Beach property will feature conceptualized amenities, as well as a courtyard with an indoor/outdoor restaurant, a beer garden, library, bar and swimming pool.

The Hall is slated to open this summer.
A new 22-story, 229-room Joie de Vivre hotel will arrive on the Bowery, just steps from the Manhattan Bridge at the crossroads of Chinatown, Nolita, the Lower East Side and East Tribeca. The new-construction, conceptualized by Peter Poon Architects and Wimberly Interiors, will incorporate historic elements into a contemporary design Developed by 50 Bowery Holdings, LLC, the modern tower will feature a cellar lounge and a rooftop bar with panoramic views.
The project at 50 Bowery is slated to open in 2016.
