Holafly’s Global eSIM & Travel Report 2026-2027 Reveals the Era of the ‘Connected Traveller’

Holafly, the global leader in travel eSIMs, today announced key insights from its 2026-2027 Global eSIM & Travel Report ahead of the World Travel Market, revealing a powerful shift in how people connect, work, and plan their journeys abroad.

According to the global report, a new kind of traveller is reshaping global mobility.

Travel has fully emerged into a new era of digital fluency and intentional exploration. Today’s global travellers value relaxation and peace of mind, prepared with smart technology that makes seamless global mobility achievable and borderless experiences the new standard.

Javier Cabrerizo, CEO of Holafly, says: “Looking at 2026 and ahead to 2027, we think global mobile access will increasingly feel like a natural component of the trip, rather than a chore. A better, more reliable internet service will give travellers greater power to journey and explore freely, change plans easily, and work from anywhere with peace of mind.”

Key Findings from the Holafly Global eSIM & Travel Report 2026–2027 include:

• Internet abroad today is essential: 98% of travellers want to stay online while abroad; only 2% stay offline whilst travelling.

• The eSIM revolution is here: 29% now use an eSIM as their primary method to stay connected (a massive jump from 17% in 2025), while reliance on traditional Wi-Fi has sharply fallen to 16%.

• The ‘Bleisure’ boom: 71% of travellers combine leisure and work in the same trip, completely transforming the traditional vacation.

• AI-powered planning is mainstream: Almost three-quarters have used AI tools to plan a trip, with 44% using them frequently to navigate, translate, and curate itineraries.

• The sustainable action gap is closing: 53% have actively made travel decisions to reduce their environmental impact, and 67% would pay a premium to travel more sustainably.

• Rising travel frequency: 49% are travelling more than they did two years ago, making an average of 2.6 international trips over the year, taking shorter, more intense trips.

Dennis Morgenstern, Global Director of Strategic Partnerships at Holafly, adds: “Smart technology works best when it feels completely natural. When you integrate digital tools directly into how people plan and manage their journeys, you can remove a lot of friction – leaving them free to focus on the trip itself.”

By providing seamless digital connectivity, Holafly empowers travellers to explore the world with confidence, design journeys that reflect their values, and embrace a new era of intentional, purpose-driven mobility.
