Korean Air celebrates 50 years of Seoul-Zurich service

Zurich, May 28, 2026 — Korean Air is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Seoul-Zurich route, marking five decades of connectivity, partnership and cultural exchange between Korea and Switzerland.

To commemorate the milestone, Korean Air hosted a reception at the Widder Hotel in Zurich on May 27, welcoming approximately 70 guests, including Woosik Shin, Chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Korea to Switzerland; Stefan Gross, Chief Commercial Officer of Zurich Airport; and other key partners and members of the Swiss-Korean community. Korean Air was represented by Jungho Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales; Sukwoo Lee, Managing Vice President of Passenger Sales; and Euisuk Byun, Regional Manager of Switzerland.

Korean Air launched its inaugural flight to Zurich on July 14, 1976, establishing the first direct air link between Korea and Switzerland. Over the past 50 years, the route has helped strengthen bilateral ties, supporting business, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.

The airline continues to enhance connectivity through Zurich, one of its key European gateways. Korean Air recently partnered with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to introduce Rail & Fly, offering passengers seamless onward travel between Zurich airport and major cities across Switzerland.

To further elevate the passenger experience, Korean Air will deploy its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner on the Zurich route starting June 2, 2026. The aircraft features the airline’s new Prestige Suites 2.0, offering enhanced privacy and elegant interiors inspired by traditional Korean design. The New Economy cabin also provides greater comfort, with a 32-inch seat pitch and a 120-degree recline.

Building on five decades of safe operations and customer trust, Korean Air remains committed to strengthening the Zurich route as an important part of its European network. The airline will continue to invest in service innovation and network connectivity to ensure the route remains a vital link between Korea and Switzerland for decades to come.

“The Zurich route represents our long-standing commitment to connecting Korea with the heart of Europe,” said Jungho Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales. “As we begin the next 50 years of service, we remain focused on delivering the highest standards of safety, comfort and premium service to our customers
