SAN DIEGO, CA – Hostelling International USA (HI USA), the largest hostel network in the United States, has selected Cloudbeds to modernise operations across its nationwide portfolio.
HI USA records more than 600,000 overnight stays annually across a range of properties, including historic urban buildings and converted landmarks. The organisation initiated the transition to a cloud-native platform to support operational complexity, improve efficiency, and ensure consistency across its network.
The implementation of Cloudbeds introduces a unified system integrating property management, distribution, revenue management, and guest experience functions. The platform is designed to streamline workflows, enhance operational visibility, and support frontline teams in managing daily operations with reduced reliance on legacy, IT-intensive processes.
The transition is expected to accelerate onboarding processes, standardise operations, and improve the guest journey across HI USA’s properties, while enabling greater agility in managing demand and operational requirements.
Adam Harris, CEO of Cloudbeds, said: “Hostels are where Cloudbeds began, and HI USA represents exactly why. From day one, we were building for operators who understood that hospitality is about something bigger than a transaction. HI USA has proven that for 80 years. Today, we bring the full weight of our platform to their work — so their teams can spend less time in the system and more time on the human side of hospitality that defines who they are.”
Sam Hussain, Vice President and Head of IT at Hostelling International USA, stated: “Technology plays a critical role in how we bring our mission to life. By simplifying operations and reducing administrative work, we can empower our teams to focus on what matters most — creating meaningful connections between people and places. This transition allows us to better support our staff, enhance the guest experience, and deliver on our purpose of fostering cultural understanding through travel.”
With the adoption of Cloudbeds, HI USA aims to improve operational consistency while reducing administrative burden, enabling staff to prioritise guest engagement and mission-driven experiences. The cloud-based infrastructure also provides flexibility to adapt operations in line with future requirements.
The move reflects a broader industry shift toward integrated, cloud-based systems that support both operational efficiency and experience delivery, particularly within complex accommodation models such as hostels.
