Ground Team Red Sdn Bhd (GTR), a leading aviation ground services provider in Malaysia, has officially introduced its first fleet of Electric Vehicle (EV) Baggage Tractors at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2.
This launch marks the deployment of 20 EV Baggage Tractors, the first phase of a broader plan to roll out 60 units. It represents the largest electric vehicle deployment in Malaysia’s aviation sector, highlighting GTR’s commitment to sustainable ground operations.
The new EV Baggage Tractors are designed to cut carbon emissions by 67%. Over the next 84 months, the operation of these 20 units is expected to eliminate 7,200 tonnes of CO₂, playing a crucial role in aviation’s decarbonization efforts. Moreover, switching from diesel to electric tractors is set to reduce operational costs by 43.5%, saving RM5.97 million over the same period.
GTR’s sustainability efforts don’t stop here. The company is exploring additional Electric Ground Service Equipment (GSE) and green energy solutions, aligning with Malaysia’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
This initiative solidifies GTR’s leadership in sustainable aviation and sets a standard for the industry. As Malaysia progresses toward its sustainability goals, GTR’s forward-thinking actions offer a clear example of how businesses can integrate environmental responsibility while maintaining operational efficiency.
