Vizag International Cruise Terminal (VICT) to operate from coming week

 

The highly anticipated Vizag International Cruise Terminal (VICT) will at last be functioning from the upcoming week. On September 4, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways launched the terminal on the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) grounds.


Mr. Sonowal inaugurated four projects in total valued at Rs. 333.56 crore on the VPA grounds on the 4 th of this month. The VICT is one among them. The VICT has been established with an outlay of Rs. 96.05 crore. The Union Tourism Ministry funded Rs. 38.50 crore.


Traveler vessels with an ability of 2,000 commuters for each vessel and the vessel’s draft of 8.1 meters can be functioned at the terminal.


Besides this, there are three other schemes that would be launched by Mr. Sonowal. One of them would be the ‘covered storage shed’ at the R-11 part, constructed spending Rs. 33.80 crore. The shelter has a capability to stock 84,000 tons of majority and bagged freight.


The shed is enclosed to decrease the contamination from loading the exposed cargo that comes majorly,
said a VPA official. The refurbished cubicle of OR 1 would also be initiated.


A port official said that OR1 out of three compartments would be launched on September 4. Left over compartments would be inaugurated by October 31, 2024.
