For SA tourism, adventure tourism presents an important opportunity, as emphasized at WTM Africa by a panel discussion on 3rd April in Cape Town, the host city. Industry experts were brought together at the discussion like Hannelie Du Toit, Chief Operating Officer SATSA; Julia Louw, Head of Leisure Tourism for the DMO unit Wesgro; Andre Du Toit, Executive Head of New Business Development for the first Equity Insurance Group and Director at SATIB Insurance Brokers; to talk about the possibilities in terms of adventure tourism and the challenges that the industry is facing.
SATSA at the time of the panel discussion declared about the unveiling of its Adventure Tourism Self-Regulation Roadmap and documents related to Code of Good Practice for public comment. The draft Self-Regulation documents were made after having talks with the stakeholders of the industry and aim on providing a structure for the operators of the adventure tourism to responsibly and sustainably operate while encouraging growth and development in this tourism genre.
Andre du Toit said that they think that for operators, the Adventure Tourism Self-Regulation documents will give an obvious framework to follow, resulting in the raising standards and producing believable products with which they can place Southern Africa as the best adventure destination.
By now, Africa has been identified as the most important destination for the seekers who are looking for thrill.
