The cities eligible for the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023 honor were announced by the European Commission. Aarhus (Denmark), Gijón (Spain), Pafos (Cyprus), Porto (Portugal), San Sebastián (Spain), Seville (Spain) and Zagreb (Croatia) are the finalists nominated from 29 applicants from 13 countries.
The contest was open to cities across the EU and the non-EU countries. The applications were assessed by panel of independent specialists.
Applicants who had the highest overall score across all categories were selected as finalists.
The shortlisted cities will be invited to showcase their entries in front of a European Jury, who will choose the 2023 European Capitals of Smart Tourism.
With the award of 2023 European Capital of Smart Tourism, communication and branding support for the entire of 2023 will be delivered to the winners.
This is inclusive of an advertising video, a specially intended hashtag sculpture for the city to showcase, and customized publicity activities made for increasing prominence at EU and internationally and also increasing the number of visitors.
