Indonesia and Malaysia have enforced some of the strictest entry procedures in Asia for curbing the spread of Covid-19 and also to keep new coronavirus variants away; however, the travel restrictions have greatly harmed their tourism sectors.
Indonesia is thinking about a quarantine waiver for foreign visitors in Bali from next week, while Malaysia announced doing away with restrictions on travelers from Thailand and Cambodia.
The Indonesian waiver for visitors who are vaccinated was under discussion but is probably to be decided by President Joko Widodo on Monday.
Visitors from 23 countries, including Australia, the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, would be permitted for a visa on arrival as per the revised rules. Malaysia will allow vaccinated arrivals from Cambodia and Thailand to avoid any quarantine from March 15.
