Italy opens for UK travellers with only a negative COVID-19 result

Italian authorities have decided that travellers from the UK, the EU and Schengen countries, and Israel will be allowed to enter the country with only a negative COVID-19 test result. Visitors from these countries will not be required to quarantine upon arrival in Italy anymore. The decision was undertaken after considering the fast distribution of the vaccines throughout Europe as well as the UK’s plan to resume travel activities from May 17.

However, it should also be remembered all travellers from the UK will be required to stay self-isolated for ten days upon return from Italy as Italy is currently under UK’s orange list. Italy also plans to allow travellers from the United States, Canada, and Japan to enter the country without being subject to any entry restrictions provided that they are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19, as the country aims to attract more tourists during this summer to help the travel and tourism sector find a way out of the current financial crisis.

Italian Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia said in a statement that authorities have waited for the move for a long time and has anticipated a Europe-wide travel pass. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi added that the country is prepared more than ever to welcome tourists. PM Draghi even mentioned that it is possible for the country to ease some of its restrictions and allow more persons from overseas to visit Italy.
