Difficulty with travelers not wearing masks

As the majority of people have been quite obedient to the safety rules introduced due to COVID, some still are not comfortable with wearing face coverings.

In the United States, the fact that there’s still no mandate on mask-wearing with state and local governments differing on mask rule implementation significantly, certainly is of no help. Texas and Mississippi in USA are among the 13 states that have raised the mandate on mask rule.

Most countries in Europe have been enforcing face mask rule, however,

where and when they need to be worn differs, chiefly when it comes to wearing outside. Lisa Maragakis, an infection prevention expert from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, emphasizes that “wearing a face mask is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the virus,” but the struggle towards mask-wearing is obvious.

Flight attendants for American Airlines in January had confessed to CNN Travel that enforcing mask-wearing has become the toughest part of their job. Therefore it's quite understandable that why maskless travelers have been causing problems at tourist sites.

After police reportedly complained of maskless visitors, authorities in Yucatan peninsula in Mexico closed the Chichen Itza Maya ruin site in spite of the fact that wearing masks in public is mandatory in Mexico.

However, while the dearth of masks was a concern, Yucatan Tourism informed CNN Travel that the site was closed due to tremendous rush.

“The archaeological zone of Chichen Itza was closed only during the Holy Week season (from April 1 to 4, re-opening on April 5) for preventive reasons in the presence of Covid-19, to avoid crowds and as a priority for the health care of visitors and locals, and not because of the absence of the use of masks,” a spokesperson said via email.
