trivago data shows immediate drop in UK demand for travel to Spain, but Europeans aren’t deterred

trivago Dramatic drop in UK demand for accommodation in Spain, both in searches and click-outs
  • European markets show no fall in searches or click-outs (but some evidence of increase between 25-27 July)
  • Diving into markets close to Spain, we see some minimal evidence slowing of demand, but not even close to the significant drop in UK demand
UK demand for accommodation in Spain drops considerably:
  • Click-outs from 25th July to 27th July fall by 36%
  • Searches from 25th July to 27th July fall by 29%
European demand for accommodation in Spain remains consistent:
Looking at click-outs and searches from Europe as a whole into Spain we see a slight increase in demand:
  • Click-outs from 25th July to 27th July increase by 55%
  • Searches from 25th July to 27th July increase by 28%
As we home in on individual countries, the differences are less marked, but nowhere near as dramatic as the fall off from the UK into Spain. Over the three-day period from 25th July to 27th July:
  • French click-outs increase by 29%
  • German click-outs increase by 50%
  • Dutch click-outs increase by 10%
  • Portuguese click-outs increase by 37%
