Hang Out with ‘Surfers in Residence’ in Waikiki Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort’s “Surfers in Residence” programme offers a unique opportunity for guests to meet and surf with some legends of the sea. Participants can even hit the waves with the surfers in the same waters where Duke Kahanamoku founded modern surfing. On 25 March, guests can mingle with Alex, Travis and Koa Smith who, apart from being professional surfers, created Sunrise Shack – a healthy eating outlet on Oahu’s North Shore. Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort also has a Sunrise Shack now – so visitors can get a taste of this Instagram sensation in Waikiki as well. Outrigger Acquires New Resort in Hawaii Outrigger Hospitality Group has purchased the former Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa on Hawaii Island in the Aloha State. The resort will be rebranded as the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa. The lush 22-acre property is perched atop dramatic lava-rock cliffs and includes more than 500 rooms and suites, a spa, wedding chapel, traditional Hawaiian cultural centre, fitness centre, kid’s club, oceanfront pool and waterslide, two restaurants and four indoor meeting venues – including a 10,000 sqft (930 sqm) convention centre. The turquoise waters surrounding the resort are home to one of the only places in the world where people can consistently swim with manta rays.
