As winter arrives on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the severe cold weather doesn’t seem to cause difficulty for the winter sports enthusiast going to the mountains in the Qinghai province of northwest China for skiing and other wintertime activities.
Qinghai in recent times has been promoting development of winter sports in the expectation of the forthcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games which boost up its tourism industry a lot.
Previously, the winter sports industry remained concentrated in northern China, mainly Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning. Nowadays, as China enters into winter sports promotion fast lane, winter sports have become immensely famous in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
With distinctive topographical and climate features tailor-made for winter sports, Qinghai has experienced an explosion of activities in the industry in the last few years.
As per a development plan, the local government is trying hard to transform the province into a new winter sports hub by setting up arenas, introducing winter sports for the locals, and arranging important athletic events.
Since 2016, the Qinghai International Curling Elite arranged at the Duoba National Highland Sports Training Base has been one of the key attractions for the curling fans world over.
With first-rate amenities, the competition was drawn last year into the global team ranking points system of the World Curling Federation and is currently known as one of the top curling tournaments of the world.
To quote Lim Myung-sup, coach of South Korea’s men’s team, “We appreciate the international-level facilities that the Elite offers and the professionalism of the staff.”
