Sébastien Bazin, chairman and CEO of Accor said that they were aware of the significant impact they had on the planet and their responsibility to create tangible benefits to their employees, guests, suppliers, partners and host communities.
The group had previously eliminated all plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds and the new commitment includes removal of individual plastic toiletry, amenities and cups and single-use plastic items in the guestrooms, meeting areas, restaurants by the end of 2022.
Being an innovative group they are continuously looking for more areas where they can reduce their impact on the global environment along with helping the local communities.
Bazin was grateful to the dedicated team of employees all over the world who share their belief of making the world a better place for the guests even if they are travelling with them or not.
Single-use plastics are defined as disposable items that are used only once and then discarded. It includes plastic straws, cotton buds, coffee stirrers, plastic cups, plastic bags for laundry or extra pillows, plastic water bottles, all plastic packaging (for food, welcome products, etc), plastic takeaway dishes and tableware, plastic gifts and toiletries etc.
