The Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund has brought up its century today with the completion of the Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.

The $21.5 million centre is the 100th completed project made possible by the Fund, which supports community facilities, enhanced services and greater opportunities in Melbourne’s rapidly-growing interface councils.

Local Government Minister Adem Somyurek and Member for Sunbury Josh Bull visited the Centre to mark the completion of construction and celebrate the milestone.

The Hume Global Learning Centre is a state-of-the-art library and community education space built on the site of the old Sunbury Library.

The project received $3 million from the 2016-17 round of the Fund. The completed Centre includes space for IT skills courses, community events, exhibitions, seminars and co-working as well as expanded library collections.

It has been delivered by the Hume City Council, which contributed $18.5 million towards the cost.

Over the last four years, the Growing Suburbs Fund has backed more than 160 projects, invested $200 million and leveraged a combined investment of $520 million – creating more than 5,400 jobs.

The Fund has invested more than $19.5 million into the Hume City Council area for 17 different projects.

The Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek said that the Growing Suburbs Fund is creating a significant legacy – each of these 100 projects help deliver stronger communities in their fastest-growing suburbs.The Global Learning Centre is a fitting place to mark 100 completed projects – it’s high-tech, forward-looking and sure to be popular with families.

The Member for Sunbury Josh Bull said that it was a proud moment for Sunbury. This $21 million state-of-the-art centre is a vibrant learning space where people can work, study, access council services and attend community events, exhibitions and seminars.The Growing Suburbs Fund has invested more than $19.5 million in their community – a great example of how they are delivering for all Victorians.
