Mass daytime tourism is being opposed by the Swiss resort village- Alpine Zermatt.
Tourists are turning up in large groups in the Swiss resort village but they don’t stop to eat there. The local authorities are downplaying these concerns and steps are being taken to avoid the bottlenecks in traffic.
According to Zermatt Tourism official, Simona Altwegg, the most popular vantage point for photography was reconstructed as the infrastructure reached its limits.
The tourism officials are now going to ask hikers ways so that they can spread themselves over the 400-kilometres network and not everyone uses the same five routes.
Many are designing their offers so that tourists spend at least two nights in Zermatt Alpine village.
As per the hotel association people, Asian tourists mostly spend a night or two in Zermatt unlike in other destinations in Switzerland.
The visitors would be motivated and told to keep a few days in hand for visiting the resort village rather than a day. They will be told that they cannot experience the Matterhorn village in a few hours and that sunrise, sunset activities apart from sports and shopping would consume much time.
However, one of the constraints the tourism sector is facing in the village is the colliding of the strategies of the hoteliers and railway operators. The Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway has brought around 1.3 million passengers to the car-free location in the first half of 2019.
The local hotel association is also concerned about the tourism over-development which the village might experience similar to Venice.
The president of the local hotel association has revealed that global demand is supposed to increase steadily. That marketing efforts and special offers can help increase tourist visits over the whole year, has been pointed out by experts.
