Air tickets in Brazil became cheaper in 2019. The finding is the Monthly Trade Survey, released this Thursday (Oct 10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
From January to September this year, the ticket price fell by 16.85%. The decrease in the price of air tickets is one of the fronts that the country’s Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, has been working for the development of the sector in Brazil.
According to him, the index is a response to some of the actions that Tourism Ministry has been taking to stimulate domestic travel.
“This is a result of the important work we are doing to make tourism more accessible. With the attraction of new companies and unlocking laws that jam the sector, we can provide Brazilians with more opportunities to know the country,” he celebrated.
In late September, during an agenda in São Paulo, Álvaro Antônio proposed the creation of a working group that will seek to reduce the price of airline tickets, as well as increase the number of routes to serve various tourist destinations in the country.
One of the objectives will be to balance supply and demand with more effective public policies to make transport modes more integrated and structured. Airport infrastructure improvements, connectivity and investment attraction are some of the initiatives to be developed.
The arrival of low cost airlines should still be an important tool to improve the price of airline tickets for Brazilians. In all, five companies have already shown interest in operating in the country: Air Europa, which has already shown interest in operating in the domestic market; Sky and Norwegian, which are already operating international flights; Flybondi, which started operating this Friday, and JetSmart, which will fly in the country from December.
