While muted inbound tourism numbers have been an issue for the travel sector, Indian outbound tourists are slowly increasing and international tourism destinations are increasing volumes of investments in India, employing senior executives for the market, introducing more marketing campaigns here in addition to easing entry requirements for Indians and working together with airline partners for greater connectivity.
From January to June this year, Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) which witnessed a year on year 15.5% growth in Indian visitors appointed Yusuke Yamamoto as the new executive director this month. He said for the first time that Southern India will receive direct flights to Japan in 2019 and 2020 with Japanese carriers All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines starting direct flights to Tokyo from Chennai and Bengaluru respectively.
“We have definitely increased our marketing spends in the Indian market considering the potential it holds. India is one of the fastest-growing outbound tourism markets and we aim to create as much awareness as we can and not lose this opportunity,” said Yamamoto.
“To achieve this, we are taking part in numerous joint promotional activities with the biggest stakeholders in the Indian travel fraternity. We are also collaborating with airline partners to promote Japan directly or via connecting destinations with them,” he added.
