Ministry of Tourism has signed a contract with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to sponsor the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is being hosted by Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.
The deal is part of the ministry’s program to market Egypt at major international events and thus develop the tourism sector.
Tourism Minister Rania Al-Mashat highlighted the importance of Egypt hosting a major sports event like the African Cup of Nations, especially during its chairmanship of the African Union in 2019.
Al-Mashat said that international sports events attract millions of viewers and fans from all over the world, which presents a great opportunity to promote tourism to Egypt internationally.
The minister said that the sponsorship deal gives the ministry the right to use images and video of players visiting touristic and archaeological sites in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Yousef, the chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, said that according to the deal, the ministry will also have the right to place the slogan “Egypt, where it all begins” on the CAF website and all of its advertising platforms.
