In an effort to boost tourism the Brazilian government on Monday waived visa requirements for visitors from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan.   The same measure was temporarily adopted before the Rio Olympics in 2016.

As per the officials the U.S. government is not planning to reciprocate with the visa exemption for Brazilians while the exemption published in the government’s official gazette which is coinciding with the President Jair Bosonaro’s visit to Washington this week.

A visa to enter Brazil is not required by  a UK passport holders on the ground that the passport will remain valid for a minimum of 6 months along with a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds.

The Ministry of Tourism believes that fewer visa requirements will help in attracting more tourists, thus bringing more revenue and getting more businesses to Brazil.

To strengthen its economic and diplomatic ties with the U.S. the country has changed its stance.

Brazil’s new Foreign Minister, Arnesto Araujo. He said that there was a shift in the foreign policy and waving visa was an apt move but this could have been put on the table as a part of the broader negotiations, also requiring some gestures in return.
