All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest and 5-star airline for six consecutive years, was recently honored the 2019 J-Win Diversity Award’s Advanced Achievement Award by Japan Women’s Innovation Network (J-Win)*1. This award started in 2008 and it annually honors Japanese companies which are advanced in accelerating diversity and inclusion. This year, a total of 45 companies applied for this award and ANA received the top rating in the prestigious Advanced Achievement Award, J-Win’s highest honor for companies that embody the organization’s values of furthering women in the workforce.

ANA has always believed in gender equality, and the company has refocused its efforts since issuing the “ANA Group Diversity & Inclusion Promise” in 2015. By establishing clear targets for promoting diversity and through the strengthening of employee networks, ANA was better able to recognize and reward internal talent. Going forward, ANA remains dedicated to advancing gender equality and continuing to remove barriers for female employees. Additionally, ANA was commended for its senior management commitment and programs aimed at enhancing work life balance among all staff.

“As a global ambassador of Japan, ANA strongly believes in bringing the best of Japan to the world. This requires creating an environment where every employee can shine,” said Hiroyuki Kunibu, Executive Vice President of ANA. “We have made enormous progress in recent years but are still committed to improving career prospects for female employees. Recognition from J-Win and other respected groups serves as a reminder that our efforts are reaching beyond our company and to Japanese society as a whole.”

ANA hopes that its blueprint for enhancing gender equality in the workplace through dedicated hiring practices and open employee forums will help more companies in Japan to tackle this important issue.
