The in-person version of the Airlines Awareness Workshop on Capital & Connectivity has been organized by AFRAA in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB). It shall take place in Nairobi, Kenya, during the period of February 25-26 in the year 2026. This event has been brought together under the theme of the AfDB’s Integrated Aviation Transformation Program (IATP). The meeting shall aim at providing bankable solutions to the challenges affecting the aviation sector. These factors have been shown to affect regional connectivity, trade, tourism, among others, that play an important role in the future growth of the tourism sector in the region.
It is pertinent to highlight that this workshop will provide an opportunity for attending airline CEOs, aircraft lessors, banks, export credit agencies, and airport operators to gather at a platform that would discuss the solutions needed for the advancement of the aviation infrastructure in Africa and the requirements for sustainability. It will be a crucial event for the enhancement of Africa’s competitiveness in the sustainable travel destinations arena.
Addressing Challenges and Unlocking Opportunities for Future Tourism Growth
The workshop
will focus on key issues such as airline economics, aircraft financing, cargo logistics, airspace infrastructure, and sustainability measures like Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airlines play a central role in facilitating tourism by improving connectivity between key tourist hubs across the continent. As tourism growth becomes an increasingly significant
part of Africa’s economic development, these
discussions are vital for unlocking long-term opportunities for both leisure and business travelers.
Through discussions on regional connectivity, trade corridors, and aircraft leasing, the workshop will help shape the future of travel and tourism across Africa, positioning the continent as a key player in global tourism. By fostering stronger aviation infrastructure and sustainability in the sector, African countries will be better equipped to attract international tourists, stimulate local economies, and create more business opportunities.
Strengthening Aviation as a Catalyst for Travel and Tourism Growth
The African Development Bank’s continued focus on
strengthening aviation as a key driver
for future tourism growth aligns with the African Union’s tourism and trade objectives,
particularly through frameworks like the Single African Air
Transport Market (SAATM) and the African Continental Free
Trade Area (AfCFTA). This workshop provides a platform to
discuss practical solutions that will drive tourism growth by improving access and
connectivity to African countries, ensuring that
the aviation sector contributes to economic growth and sustainable tourism development across the continent.
The event will also explore how sustainable tourism practices, such as the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), can help Africa’s aviation industry meet global sustainability standards. This focus on sustainable growth in aviation is essential to ensuring that Africa’s tourism industry remains resilient and competitive, while also safeguarding its eco-sensitive regions and promoting eco-tourism.
Collaborative Partnerships to Drive Future Tourism and Economic Growth
Strategic
collaborations formed during the TITF B2B event will play an important role in
accelerating Africa’s tourism growth. By
fostering partnerships between airlines, governments, and private sector players,
the event supports the development of long-term tourism initiatives that
drive not only air connectivity but
also job creation, investment,
and cultural exchange across the continent. Future tourism growth in Africa will rely on these
collaborations, which are key to enhancing the region’s global visibility
and attracting more international travelers.
This workshop provides a vital opportunity to create actionable steps toward building a robust tourism infrastructure, driven by aviation connectivity, financial solutions, and sustainability. As regional trade and tourism demand rise, the airline sector will be a central player in facilitating growth, ensuring that Africa remains a top destination for global travelers.
