SCOTTISH actor, writer and comedian, Greg McHugh – best known for his role in Channel 4’s hit series, ‘Fresh Meat’ and Scottish BAFTA-winning show, ‘Gary: Tank Commander’ – will crown Scotland’s tourism winners next month alongside television presenter Jennifer Reoch when they host the Scottish Thistle Awards.
The Scottish duo will be announcing this year’s national winners at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Thursday 14th March 2019.
The Scottish Thistle Awards celebrate success, innovation and excellence in Scotland’s tourism and hospitality industry. Entertainment at this year’s event will include music from Scottish indie-folk band, Elephant Sessions.
Rebecca Brooks, Chair of the Scottish Thistle Awards Industry Panel, said:
“The Scottish Thistle Awards National Final celebrates the fantastic achievements and innovations of our tourism and hospitality sector which continues to deliver a world-class visitor experience.
“We’re delighted that Greg and Jennifer will be joining us as we reveal the stars of Scottish tourism and with entertainment from Elephant Sessions it looks set to be a memorable night.
“Tourism is more than a holiday experience. It creates jobs and sustains communities in every corner of Scotland all year round and is at the heart of the Scottish economy.
“Good luck to all of the finalists. Whatever the outcome, they should be proud of their achievements in reaching the National Final and we look forward to celebrating with them.”
Greg McHugh added: “As someone who grew up in Edinburgh and has witnessed the huge importance and impact of tourism in the city, I am very excited to be a part of this awards evening rewarding the efforts of the industry throughout Scotland. Also, I’m hoping it results in some freebie nights in hotels…yaaaaaas!”
The flagship tourism awards are led by a panel of industry experts from several organisations including VisitScotland, Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards, Highlands & Islands Tourism Awards, the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland, Scotland Food and Drink, Scottish Tourism Alliance, the Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) and the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, sportscotland and Wild Scotland.
