TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili praised the efforts undertaken by the Iranian government and parliament to promote the country’s tourism industry.
“Iran has high capacities in tourism industry and 16 of UNWTO’s 557 affiliate members are from Iran,” said Zurab Pololikashvili in a meeting with Hamedan province’s governor and parliamentary representatives on Monday.
“Three of Iran’s affiliate members are located in Hamedan Province, which reflects the province’s capacities in tourism,” Pololikashvili said.
UNWTO secretary general also praised the warm welcome he received from Hamedan’s governor and other provincial officials in the Iranian province, describing their attendance at meeting as a sign of their special attention to development of the province.
The 40th UNWTO Affiliate Members Plenary Session to discuss harnessing cultural tourism through innovation and technology is underway from November 12-14 in the city of Hamedan with the presence of 80 members from 30 countries.
Based in Madrid, Spain, UNWTO is a subsidiary of the United Nations (UN) and mainly focuses on policy-making in tourism.
It is currently the most renowned organization in the world that is active in the field of travel and tourism.
With 1,800 tourist attractions, Hamedan province in Western Iran is one of the five main tourist destinations in the country.
