Since 2012 the international visitation to Mexico witnessed a 78.7 percent increase welcoming a record-breaking 39.3 million visitors.

As per the United Nations World Tourism Organisation Mexico is now the world’s sixth most visited country. This shows a big leap from the organisation’s ranking which ranked the nation in the 15thposition in 2012.

The achievement was due to multi-faceted effort to promote Mexico on world stage according to the Mexico tourism board.

Currently, Mexico tourism industry accounts for 8.7 per cent of the country’s GDP having $21.3 billion visitor spend and a source of 10 million jobs.

Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, Mexico secretary of tourism said that their goal at the start of the administration was to create programs that will help Mexico thrive as a tourism powerhouse.

The following critical factors were responsible for the growth of tourism industry- air connectivity, development of tourism products, fostering high-potential markets and bring large-scale events to Mexico.

More people are able to learn, work and grow due to robust tourism industry proving the fact that when tourism grows, Mexico grows.

Mexico had strong focus on strengthening its airport network and expanding several terminals with state-of-the-art technology.

The national routes showed a growth of 41 per cent and international routes grew by 28 per cent.

Helsinki – Puerto Vallarta flight from Finnair and the Tokyo – Mexico City non-stop flight from All Nippon Airways, both routes opened last year were among the new international routes.

There were 1.5 million seats being added to direct flights to Mexico because of the nation’s strong commitment to increasing air connectivity to match upto the consumer demand providing bringing investments in developing close partnerships with airlines, hotels and tourism industry.

There was a 33 per cent increase in visitor arrivals from Europe since 2012, 96 per cent increase in visitor arrivals from South America and 127 percent increase from Asia.
