The historic London neighbourhood of Mayfair is the most expensive area for hotels anywhere in the capital, a new survey has revealed.
Conducted by CheapRooms.co.uk, the survey compared hotel prices in 30 districts across the city. Average rates for the cheapest available hotel room during the month of October were used, with only hotels rated at least 3 stars and with above average guest reviews considered.
Nestled close to the green expanse of Hyde Park and awash with charming Georgian townhouses and upscale restaurants, well-heeled Mayfair tops the rankings with an average rate of £231 per night for the cheapest room. The neighbouring districts of St James and Knightsbridge emerged as the second and third most expensive areas, with average rates of £218 and £207, respectively.
Situated in west London, Hammersmith came out as the cheapest neighbourhood with an average rate of £88 per night. Visitors keen to spend less than £100 per night for their stay can also look in the districts of Bayswater, Paddington and Kensington, where average rates land under that price point.
Another area where hotels tend to be on the cheap end of the spectrum is Heathrow Airport, which offers excellent transport connections to Central London, and where hotel rooms for around £50 per night are available.
