Flight operations organisation, Ops Group reported that Milan’s airport will remain closed during the summer peak next year for three months that would be affecting almost 2.5 million passengers.
Linate will have its single runway resurfaced and the last flight will take off on 26th July 2019 and the first arrival is expected to be on 28 October.
So far there has been no closure involved in an important gateway nor did it continue for so long. The standard practice among smaller Italian airports close completely for runway work, the flights are diverted to nearby alternatives.
Alitalia, the biggest airline at Linate is currently facing chronic financial problems will face more problem due to the closure of one of its key hub.
Milan Malpensa which is already under pressure located 30 miles north west of the city might be the point of entry for most flights.
There will be a 45 percent increase in passenger numbers if all the passengers of Linate went to Malpensa. The sharp increase in demand will be tough for the security search are in each terminal to cope.
Being located in the centre Linate is the most preferred among the business and leisure travellers.
