2018 is an exciting time to be around the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) following a busy kick off with one of its biggest events ever – the 9th World Urban Forum  and thereafter an additional 637 events in the first six months of the year.

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για World Converging on the CentreOver 1.2 million delegates and visitors over this period converged on Kuala Lumpur and delivered an economic impact of more than RM526 million to Malaysia. This is an increase of 90 events or 17% and an additional 530,000 delegates and visitors (a 79% increase), compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor shared, “50% of our events in the first six months were repeat business and played a significant role in the 17% jump in number of events hosted this year compared to 2017. We are fortunate to have such a strong base of loyal recurrent clients we consider them part of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre family.”

He continued, “We are delighted by the strong performance thus far and are focused on maintaining momentum as we prepare for the opening of our expansion in July 2019 which will provide an additional 11,000 sqm enabling our clients to grow their existing and new events and for us to accommodate more concurrent events. This will provide an opportunity for even more growth in the future.”

Upcoming events in the second half of 2018 include; the World Engineering, Science &

Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2018; International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress 2018; International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) International Conference 2018; International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress 2018; World Cancer Congress 2018;
Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) Congress 2018, and many more.
Securing these prestigious events is a testament to Malaysia’s business events industry players and their ongoing efforts to nurture and enhance Malaysia’s presence globally a powerful and attractive meetings destination.

It is clear that Malaysia’s affordability, friendly multicultural and multi-lingual society provide a welcoming soft landing for foreign attendees of meetings and events.

Malaysian hospitality coupled excellent accessibility and airline connectivity, world-class infrastructure and the diverse variety of accommodation, with an authentic culinary culture and an experienced and professional industry supply chain, deliver a compelling proposition to differentiate the country and grow its market share of business events.

“There are many reasons for our success in the first half of 2018, but two to highlight are the contribution of our team and our ongoing focus on strengthening industry partnerships. Industry collaboration underway include the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA); Maritz Global Educational; the
Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)/Incentive, Conference &
Event Society (ICESAP) Knowledge Exchange and the Union of International
Associations (UIA) Round Table Asia-Pacific,” concluded Pryor.
