ATPI Sports Events, part of the leading corporate travel and events business the ATPI Group, has ended the year on a high after a steady series of client wins, high-profile event success and team expansion throughout 2017.
The year commenced with a medal winning start as the Canadian Olympic Committee selected ATPI Sports Events as the exclusive ticket reseller and hospitality package provider for the next four Olympic Games. As part of the arrangement, ATPI Sports Events will also be responsible for arranging travel for Canada’s athletes and team members up to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Recognising ATPI Sports Events’ longstanding Olympic expertise, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation appointed the team as one of two Authorised Travel Agents to offer travel packages and tickets for April’s Games. The agreement – revealed in June 2017 - will ensure domestic and international spectators have the chance to discover Queensland’s charms beyond the sporting venues.
ATPI Sports Events extended its long-standing relationship with Heineken. Besides the projects around the UEFA Champions League and Europa League football tournaments, the events company also managed travel and hospitality around a series of Formula 1 races, including Barcelona, Monza and Singapore. This co-operation will be continued in 2018.
The events specialist secured two more high-profile sporting tournaments over the summer, managing the travel arrangements for participating teams in both the 2017 Soccer Sevens (held in Hong Kong) and the Rugby League Festival of World Cups (held across western Sydney in July 2017).
Thanks to ATPI Sports Events’ extensive experience in organising tournament travel programmes, the business was brought on-board by Playon – the international network of retired sports professionals – to coordinate travel arrangements for an annual international seven-a-side football event.
Moving from field to the water, the events management company embarked on the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race as the official worldwide hospitality agency. Having been involved in the prestigious round-the-world yacht competition for over 16 years, the ATPI Sports Events team is responsible for the bespoke travel and hospitality programmes of a broad range of clients.
In view of the ongoing successes, ATPI Sports Events also announced two senior appointments in 2017 to support the team’s ambitious growth plans. Helen van Berkel took on the role of managing director, sports and corporate events, leading the company’s businesses in the Netherlands and Canada, whilst Netherlands-based Michiel Aulbers was appointed global commercial head of sports. Further senior team additions also took place with the creation of four new roles in the ATPI Sports Events office in Canada.
The new management team, who bring over 70 years of dedicated travel hospitality and international event experience, will be instrumental in delivering the event specialist’s role as official Olympic ticketing and hospitality services partner for the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Looking ahead to this year the team is currently preparing support to a host of corporate hospitality programmes on behalf of its clients during the Winter Olympics, which will take place from 9-25 February 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Helen van Berkel, managing director sports and corporate events, the ATPI Group said: “The team’s performance across our international offices in 2017 has been exceptional. Our new partnerships with world-leading events have opened up opportunities for international expansion as we continue to demonstrate our significant expertise in this competitive arena and cement our reputation as logistical authorities in the sports industry.”
“Having bolstered our management team, ATPI Sports Events is now better placed than ever to build on our high-profile portfolio and we look forward to delivering our inspirational events and trademark hospitality across the thriving sports events industry throughout 2018.”
