KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail to pool in $6.7billion GDP to both nations

The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) is forecast to pool in about S$6.7 billion in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) to Singapore and Malaysia.

HSRFurthermore, it is expected to generate 111,000 jobs by the year 2060.

Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah who is the Chief Executive Officer (SPAD) said while delivering his opening address at the 4thInternational Summit of the HSR Asia 2017 in Kuala Lumpur on 12th September via an inclusive plan that the HSR would be delivering important socio-economic benefits to both Malaysia and Singapore.

He then added that he really feels the KL-Singapore would act as a crucial influencer as it would be pulling isolated regions closer, triggering growth and development and assisting many towns along the way the unlock their concealed potentials by making them highly accessible.

Mohd Azharuddin said that there is a pent-up demand for travel between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as observed by the number of cross-border buses and flights between the two cities.

He thinks that introducing the new railway network would present a competitive edge that promising a time-saving process and also might be leading to a host of fresh opportunities.

Nevertheless he feels that there are certain complex issues to be worked upon like capacity investment, communications, network expansion, funding options and much more.
