SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel located in San Francisco has been awarded the Best Historic Hotel in America in the 400+ room category by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Hotels of America. The 2016 Award of Excellence was presented to the Palace at a ceremony in Honolulu, Hawaii.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Palace has created an Award Winning Escape package that invites guests to immerse themselves in the rich history of the property, and join in celebrating this honor. The package includes luxury accommodations, two signature cocktails in the legendary Pied Piper bar and a Palace history book.
A program of the non-profit National Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Hotels of America only accepts hotels that have been designated by the US Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, the hotels have to be recognized as having historic significance and be at least 50 years old.
Originally established in 1875, the Palace is San Francisco’s first-ever luxury hotel. A landmark of the city, the Palace Hotel has prevailed throughout history and evolved with the times. With the introduction of the new Palace in 1909, the award-winning 1989 restoration, and the recent multi-million-dollar renovation as part of The Luxury Collection brand’s investment effort to renovate and reopen some of the most iconic hotels in North America, the Palace has remained an icon in the city of San Francisco.
