U.S. travel to overseas markets(1) totaled 2.7 million, flat in May and for the year.
Regional results were as follows:
- Europe, 1.2 million travelers, down one percent
- Caribbean, 538,000 travelers, down one percent
- Asia, 367,000 travelers, down four percent
- Central America, 189,000 travelers, up five percent
- South America, 139,000 travelers, up one percent
- Middle East, 145,000 travelers, up seven percent
- Oceania, 40,000 travelers, flat
- Africa,
35,000 travelers, down one percent
- Mexico, 1.5 million travelers, down four percent; however, air travel (498,000) was up nine percent
- Canada,
1.0 million travelers, up four percent; air travel (327,000) was up
seven percent

U.S. travel to overseas locations accounted for 49 percent of U.S. outbound international travel.
- Europe, a 17 percent share;
- Caribbean, a 12 percent share;
- Asia, an eight percent share;
- Central America, a five percent share;
- South America, a three percent share;
- Middle East, a three percent share;
- Oceania, a one percent share, and
- Africa,
almost a one percent share
- U.S. travel to Mexico a 37 percent share; and
- Canada
a 15 percent share.
