Shanghai International Film Festival to Open on June 15

The 16th Shanghai International Film Festival Organizing Committee announced the composition of the stellar jury for the Golden Goblet Award and Asian New Talent Award as well as the list of nominated films.
SIFF has been around for two decades since its debut in 1993, and its two main awards - Golden Goblet and Asian New Talent – have been widely and highly recognized. This year, the organizing committee has received an all-time high of 1655 film applications from 112 countries and regions. Of these films, there are world premieres, Asian premieres, creations by highly celebrated directors and creations by "rookie" directors. Twelve films from countries like China, Germany, Canada, Greece, Russia, Turkey, Japan and South Korea have been nominated finalists for the Golden Goblet. These films include, among others, A GUN & A RING directed by Lenin M. Sivam (Canada), Amazing directed by Hu Xuehua (China), FISTS OF LEGEND directed by Woo-Suk Kang (South Korea), I AM YOU directed by Petar Popzlatev (Bulgaria), and UNDER THE NAGASAKI SKY directed by Taro Hyugaji (Japan).
The festival also pays homage to highly respected personalities like Alfred Hitchcock, Ozu Yasujiro, Miyazaki Hayao, William Oliver Stone, Tang Xiaodan and Leslie Cheung with dedicated retrospectives.
Shanghai International Film Festival has become the largest and most influential international film festival brand in the Asia-Pacific region. It features the "Film Projects Market", which is a combination of the "Chinese Film Projects Venture" and "Co-production Projects Negotiations". Using the concept of new media, it provides an international stage for young directors while exploring new channels of distribution. In addition, film screenings and the exchanges between some pioneers in the industry will highlight the role that SIFF will play in furthering cultural development and making Shanghai an international metropolis of culture and capital of art.
