Air Transat is adding five nonstop routes to Europe for summer 2027, opening new transatlantic connections from Montreal, Toronto and Quebec City as the Canadian leisure carrier accelerates its international expansion.
The new services will introduce Geneva in Switzerland and Birmingham in the UK to Air Transat’s network. The airline will also add connections to Lyon and Barcelona from Quebec City and Faro from Montreal.
The expansion reflects the airline’s strategy of developing more direct connections to European regional markets rather than concentrating exclusively on European capital cities such as Paris, London and Lisbon.
The two new destinations will each receive twice-weekly service. Montreal–Geneva flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays from June 19 to October 23, 2027. Toronto–Birmingham services will run on Tuesdays and Fridays from June 22 to October 22.
The three additional routes will operate once a week. Quebec City–Lyon flights are scheduled for Tuesdays from June 8 to October 26, while Quebec City–Barcelona services will operate Mondays from June 14 to October 25. Montreal–Faro flights will also operate on Mondays between June 14 and October 25.
The additions will significantly strengthen Quebec City‘s transatlantic offering. With Lyon and Barcelona, Air Transat will serve five European destinations nonstop from the Canadian city, joining existing services to Paris, Marseille and Nantes.
Barcelona will become the first Spanish destination served nonstop from Quebec City. Lyon also opens direct access to France’s second-largest metropolitan area, potentially attracting both leisure travelers and visitors with family and business connections.
From Montreal, Faro will become Air Transat’s third Portuguese airport, alongside Lisbon and Porto. The service will provide direct access to the Algarve, one of Portugal’s leading holiday regions, without requiring travelers to connect through another European gateway.
A broader European expansion
The summer 2027 announcement follows a series of network developments by Air Transat during 2026.
The airline has introduced or announced services to several additional European destinations, including Tirana in Albania, Agadir in Morocco, Reykjavik in Iceland and Istanbul in Turkey. Latest was indeed Montreal–Istanbul nonstop service, which was inaugurated on October 30, 2026.
The carrier has also expanded its European offering from Quebec City with Marseille and Nantes, while adding London Gatwick–Ottawa connectivity from the UK market.
Alongside its European expansion, Air Transat is extending two leisure routes throughout the year. Quebec City–Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and Montreal–St. Maarten will both become year-round services, rather than ending after the winter holiday season.
