ECTAA and GNTO partner to strengthen Greece’s ties with Europe’s travel industry

BRUSSELS – ECTAA and the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) have signed a Greece tourism partnership to strengthen links between the country and Europe’s travel agents and tour operators. Running until 31 December 2026, the agreement will position Greece as ECTAA’s Showcase Destination for the remainder of the year, combining destination promotion, industry dialogue and networking opportunities.

ECTAA and GNTO will deliver a series of targeted initiatives designed to highlight Greece’s tourism offering and foster closer relationships with the European travel distribution sector. The programme will combine digital engagement with in-person meetings, connecting Greek tourism stakeholders with travel professionals across Europe.

Greece is an established European tourism destination, known for its islands and cultural heritage, as well as a broad range of experiences that can support tourism throughout the year. Through the partnership, ECTAA will help present these opportunities to travel agents and tour operators and encourage new business connections with Greek tourism providers.

Three initiatives scheduled for November and December

The cooperation will feature three main activities before the end of 2026:

  • 24–26 November – Greece Showcase Webinars: Online presentations highlighting Greece’s latest tourism offerings and new business opportunities for European travel professionals.
  • 9 December – Workshop on Insolvency Protection in Athens: An industry discussion addressing insolvency protection, related challenges and potential solutions in the context of the revised EU Package Travel Directive.
  • 10–11 December – ECTAA Semi-Annual Meeting in Athens: A gathering of European travel industry leaders for strategic discussions, networking and engagement with Greek tourism stakeholders, organised in cooperation with HATTA, the association of travel agents and tour operators in Greece.

The programme brings together destination marketing and business-to-business engagement with discussion of regulatory issues affecting the travel sector. The December meetings will also provide opportunities for European industry representatives to meet Greek tourism stakeholders in Athens.

Connecting Greek tourism businesses with European travel professionals

Eric Drésin, Secretary General of ECTAA, said: “Greece needs little introduction to European travellers, but the country continues to invest in tourism and develop exciting new business opportunities. Together with GNTO, we want to go beyond traditional destination promotion and connect Greek tourism stakeholders directly with European travel professionals. We are particularly pleased to conclude the year by bringing our members together in Athens. After all, who said you couldn’t celebrate Christmas in Athens?”

Under the agreement, GNTO will gain access to ECTAA’s network representing approximately 100,000 travel agents and tour operators across Europe. ECTAA members, meanwhile, will have opportunities to discover new Greek tourism products and strengthen their business connections with the country.

The partnership is intended to build closer relationships between Greece’s tourism sector and the European travel trade through direct engagement, product discovery and industry networking. Its activities will continue through 31 December 2026, with Athens hosting the final meetings of the programme in December.
