AirDNA reveals Europe’s cheapest winter destinations, with stays starting under €40 a night

New research from AirDNA reveals that vacation rental prices ranged from just €35 to more than €800 per night across European destinations during winter 2025/26, highlighting affordable options for travelers seeking snow, sunshine, or a city break this upcoming winter.

Analyzing millions of Airbnb and Vrbo listings across Europe, we found significant differences in accommodation costs between countries and individual destinations. The report covers:

  • Cheapest countries: North Macedonia (€37.90/night) and Albania (€39.68) topped the affordability rankings, well below the European average of €119.26.
  • Most expensive countries: Andorra (€262.99/night), Switzerland (€214.34), and Iceland (€200.76) led the rankings, driven largely by demand for ski resorts and northern winter destinations.
  • Affordable winter escapes: Travelers looking for snow can head to Zlatibor, Serbia (€54.10/night), or La Bourboule, France (€76.70), while those seeking winter sunshine can find vacation rentals in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, for €93.39 per night. All three destinations are in their peak season during winter.
  • Big savings on ski getaways: Vacation rentals in Courchevel, France, averaged €838.28 per night last winter, compared to just €96.41 in Puy-Saint-Vincent, another French Alpine destination.

Looking ahead to winter 2026/27, travelers who have already booked their vacation rentals are paying 21.4% more per night, on average, than those who had booked by the same time last year. However, these early bookings are mostly for the more expensive holiday and ski periods, and the overall price increase for the winter season is expected to be smaller.
