Singita Explore reopens in Tanzania

NEW YORK, NY  Singita Explore has reopened in the western reaches of the plains within the Singita Grumeti Reserve in Tanzania, following a redesign of the private wilderness experience.

The camp accommodates one group at a time and is surrounded by open plains, wildlife herds, balanite and desert date trees. The remote location provides a private setting for an immersive wilderness experience.

The redesigned Explore experience places emphasis on simplicity and connection with nature. The spaces have been pared back, with a central gathering area at the heart of the camp containing the finishing kitchen, waiter station, dining gazebo and fireplace.

The first tents on either side of the central gathering space can be used for children or converted into a wellness treatment room or library.

Canvas separates guests from the surrounding wilderness, while natural materials, warm earthy tones and the absence of synthetic sound and scent are used throughout the camp. Temperatures are naturally regulated through fire, fresh air, fans, cold showers, hot water bottles and layers of blankets.

Fire forms part of the daily rhythm of the camp, providing warmth, light and nourishment, as well as a gathering place under the night sky.

The guest experience focuses on time in nature, with activities and rest guided by the landscape and weather rather than fixed schedules. Guests are encouraged to explore the surroundings and spend time in the natural environment without scheduled activities or distractions.

Guests are woken by a human voice at sunrise, while weather conditions help determine the activities or periods of rest during the day. Traditional local meals are prepared over open flames and served fireside, while evenings conclude with guests sharing stories around the embers beneath the stars.

Explore is available for exclusive use and is positioned for friends and families. The experience includes a small team dedicated to each group, a pared-back approach to the camp environment, and simple, fresh and nourishing food prepared over open flames and enjoyed fireside.

The camp is seasonal and solar powered and closes between March and May during the rainy season. Bookings are available from August 20, 2026.

As part of the Explore experience, guests can engage with conservation and community initiatives across the Serengeti in partnership with the Grumeti Fund.

Guests can visit the Grumeti Fund’s RISE Center, the Environmental Education Center and community projects including GHOMACOS, an organic farming cooperative that supplies Singita’s kitchens and staff canteens. The visits provide an opportunity to learn about conservation activities taking place in the region.

Guests can also meet the Grumeti Fund’s Anti-Poaching Canine Unit, spending time with handlers and tracking dogs and observing a live demonstration.

Another option is a hike to one of the Fund’s Anti-Poaching Observation Posts, where guests can learn about scout operations while having a picnic and viewing the surrounding Serengeti landscape.
