Trevium and Pliant launch finance-ready travel payments

PARIS & BERLIN – Trevium, the financial technology platform for business travel developed by S4BT, has entered a strategic partnership with fintech company Pliant. The companies have launched Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment, a new corporate travel payments process designed to provide finance teams with complete transaction data before billing begins.

The launch represents the first stage of a wider collaboration between the two companies. Trevium and Pliant are developing a series of capabilities intended to simplify financial operations related to corporate travel.

For multinational companies, payment processing has become increasingly automated. However, finance departments continue to spend substantial time reconciling transactions because invoice and tax information often arrives after payment has already been processed.

In many enterprise resource planning and accounting systems, a single incomplete transaction can interrupt an automated workflow. These transactions are transferred to manual exception queues, where finance teams must locate missing invoices, verify VAT information and correct accounting records before processing can continue.

As corporate travel volumes increase, the number of exceptions can create additional operational costs within finance departments. Traditional payment processes often begin billing before all the required financial information becomes available.

Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment changes this sequence by delaying billing until each transaction contains complete finance-ready data. The process brings together booking information, traveller details, invoice data and VAT information before the billing stage starts.

The companies said this approach can reduce manual reconciliation, increase Straight-Through Processing rates and limit exception handling. It is intended to prevent incomplete records from entering accounting systems rather than requiring finance teams to correct them later.

Christopher Hecht, Global Payment Solutions Officer at S4BT, explained: “For years we’ve focused on automating payments. But moving money has never been the real challenge. The real problem begins when finance receives incomplete data. One missing invoice or incomplete VAT record can interrupt automated accounting processes and force finance teams into manual exception handling. We’re changing that.

Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment ensures that finance receives complete, finance-grade transaction data before billing takes place. Instead of asking accountants to repair incomplete transactions, we prevent them from entering the accounting process in the first place.”

Under the partnership, Pliant provides the payment infrastructure and manages payment execution throughout the transaction lifecycle. Trevium enriches each payment with booking intelligence, traveller information, structured invoice records, VAT details and other financial metadata before billing starts.

The combined process gives equal importance to payment execution and the quality of the accompanying financial data. It is designed to support automated accounting, regulatory compliance and financial reporting.

Lukas Gottschick, Chief Commercial Officer at Pliant, said: “Businesses increasingly expect payments to deliver far more than the movement of funds. They need reliable financial data that supports automated accounting, compliance and reporting. Together with Trevium we’re enabling a new generation of finance-ready payment processes that reduce operational complexity while improving financial accuracy.”

The solution has been developed for large multinational organisations operating complex finance environments. These companies often use several financial tools and ERP platforms, where even a limited number of incomplete transactions can generate substantial manual work.

The initial deployment focuses on hotel payments. However, the underlying technology has been designed to support additional business travel categories, including air, rail and other travel suppliers.

Trevium and Pliant said the partnership reflects a shift in the development of corporate travel payments towards the financial data attached to each transaction. Guaranteed Transaction Enrichment is the first capability being introduced through their collaboration.
