The discussions focused on measures to improve network performance through closer cross-border cooperation within Europe’s largest Functional Airspace Block. Among the initiatives announced is a FABEC-wide Flight Plan Adherence campaign aimed at supporting more predictable and efficient traffic flows across the European network.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the common performance plan (RP4), preparations for defining the framework of the next performance reference period (RP5), and initiatives to strengthen performance monitoring through data-driven decision-making.
Civil-military cooperation was highlighted as an increasingly important element in supporting more flexible and efficient use of airspace for both civil and military traffic within an operational environment influenced by current geopolitical developments.
Frédéric Guignier, Chair of the FABEC CEO Board and representative of DSNA, said: “ANSPs have one clear mandate: to serve aviation safely, efficiently and around the clock, today and tomorrow. This implies to shape the future by improving the performance and the resilience of the European network.”
According to FABEC, aligning operational, technical and governance activities across national borders is intended to reinforce its contribution to network performance while supporting more efficient and resilient air traffic management across Europe.
Jon Eikelenstam, President of FABEC and Director of Civil Aviation of the Netherlands, said: “FABEC stands as a catalyst for efficient and high-performing airspace, driving sustainable operational cooperation across national borders. Through commonly agreed policies, shared best practices, and coordinated performance management, FABEC States (civil and military) and ANSPs continuously optimise operations in the core of the Single European Sky.”
