INDELFINGEN – Maybach Ocean Club has announced the appointment of Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven as the shipyard partner for Beyond Horizons, a 155-metre superyacht that is being developed as a private members’ club at sea.
The project combines the design principles associated with Mercedes-Maybach with a hospitality and ownership concept centred on a private membership model. Developed in collaboration with yacht specialists Splendid Sea and German naval architects Dölker + Voges, Beyond Horizons is designed as a residential-style vessel rather than a traditional cruise or charter yacht.
The yacht will feature 30 identical suites, each measuring approximately 74 square metres and equipped with private balconies and ocean views. Construction at Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven marks the transition of the project from concept development to the construction phase.
The partnership was formally confirmed during a signing ceremony held at the Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence, attended by representatives from Maybach Ocean Club, Mercedes-Benz Design and Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven.
Captain Matthias Bosse, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Maybach Ocean Club, said: “Today marks a defining moment for Maybach Ocean Club as we move from vision towards construction. Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven brings an extraordinary heritage of German engineering, precision, and discretion to this project. Together, we are creating a true icon of contemporary luxury at sea.”
He added: “More than a vessel, the heart of the Maybach Ocean Club is the private circle of 300 individuals from around the world who that will come together through shared experiences aboard the yacht, in the water and on curated excursions. This club reflects Maybach’s design language and spirit of innovation, but also speaks to something timeless, sharing special places and experiences with people who matter most in our lives.”
Thorsten Rönner, shareholder and Managing Director of Lloyd Werft, commented: “We are pursuing an exceptional and forward-looking approach to the yachting of tomorrow with this community concept. We see considerable potential in it for new market segments and user groups. For Lloyd Werft, the focus is on the demanding task of turning this vision into reality with the highest level of engineering expertise and manufacturing capability. The cooperation is a step into new territory for all partners and demonstrates the potential that lies in combining bold ideas with maritime expertise.”
Located in Bremerhaven, Germany, Lloyd Werft is known for the construction and refit of large yachts and specialised vessels. Previous projects include the explorer yacht Luna and the expedition yacht Solaris.
Beyond Horizons has been designed around a community-based ownership structure. The vessel is expected to accommodate up to 72 members and guests at any one time, while six additional guest cabins will be available for invited friends and family members.
Planned onboard facilities include panoramic lounges, multiple dining venues, wellness and spa facilities, a marina-style beach club with direct ocean access, a split-level infinity pool, extensive sundecks, live music and cultural programming, as well as a dedicated support vessel for tenders and operational logistics.
The yacht’s design takes inspiration from Mercedes-Maybach’s automotive styling, incorporating elongated proportions, sculpted surfaces and a material palette featuring the brand’s signature rose-gold accents.
Seasonal itineraries are expected to include Mediterranean destinations during the summer and Caribbean destinations during the winter season. Members will also have access to curated partnerships, concierge services and private members’ club privileges.
Each membership is expected to provide approximately four weeks of annual access through a fractional ownership structure designed to simplify yacht ownership.
Beyond Horizons is scheduled for delivery in 2029, with its maiden voyage expected to take place the same year.
