ASTA Publishes Hotel Watch List; Commission Recoveries Top $45,000

WHAT:                As part of ASTA’s ongoing quarterly public release of its Hotel Watch List, today, the association is making the list publicly available for a two-week period to increase transparency around unpaid hotel commissions and encourage broader industry accountability.

The Hotel Watch List identifies properties reported by ASTA members for failing to pay travel advisor commissions 45 days or more after a client’s completed hotel stay. The list is typically available exclusively to ASTA members, but ASTA opens public access periodically to raise awareness of recurring commission payment issues and encourage more advisors to report delayed or unpaid commissions through ASTA’s Report a Hotel tool.

Before a property is added to the Hotel Watch List, ASTA notifies the hotel in writing and provides an opportunity to resolve the issue through ASTA’s business-to-business dispute resolution process. Properties that tender payment to the advisor or otherwise satisfactorily resolve the matter within 30 days are not added to the list.

WHY IT MATTERS:
Through its Report a Hotel tool, ASTA has helped recover more than $45,000 in unpaid hotel commissions for travel advisors since the tool was launched last October. The organization continues to pursue its 2026 goal of recovering $100,000 in unpaid hotel commissions while pushing for stronger, more consistent payment practices across the industry.

Timely commission payment is essential to travel advisors’ businesses. By making the Hotel Watch List public on a quarterly basis, ASTA is increasing pressure where pressure is warranted and reinforcing a clear industry standard: commissions earned are commissions owed.

Public visibility also helps identify patterns of noncompliance, strengthens advisor reporting and sends a clear message to suppliers that unpaid commission issues will not be allowed to go unnoticed.

MORE INFORMATION:
The Hotel Watch List will be publicly available through June 29 and can be accessed here.

Travel advisor members experiencing hotel commission payment issues are encouraged to use ASTA’s Report a Hotel tool to document unpaid commissions and help ASTA pursue resolution.

The Report a Hotel tool remains available exclusively to ASTA travel advisor members.
