Caribbean tourism ministers gather in New York

 

NEW YORK – A record post-pandemic turnout of tourism ministers and commissioners from across the Caribbean is set to gather in Manhattan on June 1 for the opening of Caribbean Week in New York 2026.

Taking place amid evolving geopolitical conditions and changing international market dynamics, the event will bring together tourism leaders from across the region to discuss economic resilience, market positioning and regional cooperation.

Organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the weeklong program coincides with Caribbean American Heritage Month and will be held at the InterContinental New York Times Square under the theme “One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences.”

Ministers and commissioners of tourism from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint-Martin, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have confirmed their participation. Ministerial representatives from Belize, Curaçao and Saint Lucia will also attend. In addition, Albert Bryan Jr., Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, is scheduled to address the opening session.

Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer, said: “In a world experiencing rapid geopolitical shifts, Caribbean Week in New York is a vital arena for strategy development, risk mitigation and collective action. As leaders from across the region come together, Caribbean Week provides a powerful platform to showcase the innovation, resilience and limitless possibilities of Caribbean tourism.”

The official opening ceremony will feature a keynote address by Ian Gooding-Edghill, CTO Chairman and Minister of Tourism and International Transport of Barbados. Following the ceremony, tourism leaders will participate in the session “Around the Caribbean in 60 Minutes”.

Christine Valls, Managing Director for the Caribbean and Latin America at United Airlines, will keynote the Caribbean Women in Tourism Leadership Dinner & Awards during Caribbean Week in New York 2026.

On Tuesday, ministers will convene for a closed-door Ministerial Council meeting focused on regional tourism policy, airlift challenges, supply-side issues and sustainable development initiatives. Throughout the week, tourism ministers and directors will engage with travel industry stakeholders, travel advisors, tour operators and international media representatives.

The 2026 program includes discussions on airlift expansion, global tourism marketing, sustainability and technological innovation.

Additional events scheduled during the week include the Caribbean Media Awards, the CTO Foundation Scholarship Awards Luncheon and the Caribbean Women in Tourism Leadership Dinner & Awards.

The awards dinner will be hosted by Caribbean media personality Alex Jordan and will feature a keynote address by Christine Valls, Managing Director for the Caribbean and Latin America at United Airlines. The event will also include the launch of a new scholarship fund supporting women in tourism.
