Hilton signs Umfolozi River Hotel in South Africa

Hilton has announced the signing of Umfolozi River Hotel, KwaZulu-Natal, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, in partnership with Umfolozi Hotel and Spa (Pty) Ltd. Expected to open in 2028, the property represents the second Tapestry Collection by Hilton signing in South Africa within the past year.

The signing took place during Africa’s  Travel Indaba in Durban and reflects Hilton’s continued expansion across key leisure destinations in South Africa. Representatives from Hilton, Umfolozi Hotel and Spa (Pty) Ltd and Valor Hospitality Partners participated in the signing ceremony.

Located in Mtubatuba, in the cultural heartland of the Zulu region, the hotel will be positioned within an area known for its historical significance and natural attractions. Guests will have access to destinations including Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, located approximately 30 minutes away, and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognised for its biodiversity and ecosystems.

The hotel will feature 102 guest rooms and suites, together with a range of leisure, wellness and event facilities. These will include an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby café and bar, spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, two meeting rooms and a ballroom designed for corporate and social events.

Set within the forests of KwaZulu-Natal, the property is expected to offer experiences connected to the region’s cultural heritage, local communities and natural environment.

The property will be managed by Valor Hospitality Partners, which will oversee hotel operations following the opening.
