Penang’s Business Events Sector Rockets to RM1.91 Billion Economic Impact in 2025

Penang, Malaysia — The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) proudly announces a landmark year for Business Events Penang in 2025, reflecting strong growth across all key performance indicators and reinforcing Penang’s position as a premier destination for high-value business events.

In 2025, Penang hosted a total of 3,391 business events, marking a 64.7% increase compared to 2,059 events in 2024. The number of delegates surged to 451,198, up 47.8% from the previous year, while total room nights reached 824,505, representing a 47.6% growth.

These achievements collectively contributed to an estimated Economic Event Impact (EEI) of RM1.91 billion.

The review further emphasizes that this growth was supported by aggressive infrastructure development, including the addition of over 2,000 hotel rooms and the expansion of direct flight connectivity, making Penang more accessible and attractive for both regional and international delegates. “These results demonstrate that business events are not only a significant economic driver for Penang but also a key contributor to the state’s long-term vision under Penang 2030,” said YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Exco for Tourism & Creative Economy.

“There is strong potential for further growth in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and marine-related industries. These emerging and strategic sectors present new opportunities to attract high-value business events that are closely aligned with Penang’s long-term economic priorities.” Ashwin Gunasekeran, CEO of PCEB, highlighted the bureau’s approach: “At PCEB, we turn insight and foresight into action. By using data, market intelligence, and global best practices, we refine our strategies to help partners transform opportunities into real outcomes and measurable impact across Penang’s business events ecosystem.”

Looking ahead, Penang continues to champion high-value, strategic business events that deliver both economic impact and long-term benefits. Central to this vision is the Penang Inspiring Meetings campaign, which goes beyond hosting events to creating meaningful experiences. It positions Penang firmly within the international business events community, reflecting a commitment to delivering events that are transformative and experiential, fostering genuine connections between people and place, and generating impact that reaches beyond the destination
