ECTAA and WEX announce strategic partnership on digital payments

BRUSSELS – ECTAA and WEX have announced a strategic two-year partnership aimed at supporting digital transformation and secure payment practices across the European travel industry.

The collaboration brings together ECTAA, the umbrella organisation representing national travel agents’ and tour operators’ associations within the European Union, and WEX, a financial technology service provider specialising in virtual card and travel payment solutions.

The partnership focuses on strengthening the digital maturity of the European travel intermediary sector by promoting secure, efficient and compliant payment technologies suited to a multi-channel and cross-border market environment.

Jason Hancock, Managing Director of Global Travel at WEX, stated: “In a global travel landscape shaped by digital transformation, the ability to manage payments securely, flexibly, and at scale has become essential to business success. WEX, with its robust virtual card technology and expertise in travel payments, supports travel businesses in optimizing working capital, reducing fraud exposure, and increasing operational efficiency. We are delighted to partner with ECTAA to help improve cash flow management and strengthen supplier relationships across the European intermediary sector.”

Eric Dresin, Secretary General of ECTAA, commented: “As the travel landscape rapidly evolves, ECTAA’s mission is to ensure that our members are equipped to adapt to both regulatory and technological developments. Collaborations such as this one with WEX are essential to foster dialogue across the sector, share practical knowledge on modern payment solutions, and create platforms where travel companies of all sizes can access the tools they need to enhance transparency and competitiveness.”

The partnership establishes a framework for cooperation over the next two years, centred on knowledge exchange, market insights and strategic outreach. The objective is to support digital transformation within the European travel intermediary sector through ongoing information sharing and targeted engagement.

WEX’s expertise in areas such as risk management, virtual card technology and optimisation of B2B relationships with suppliers will be shared through ECTAA’s communication channels. These include regular content contributions, dedicated sections in the ECTAA annual report and specialised articles in each ECTAA newsletter throughout the partnership period.

A key element of the collaboration will be WEX’s Platinum Sponsorship of the ECTAA Travel Distribution Summit, scheduled to take place in Brussels on 10–11 February 2026. The sponsorship includes co-organisation and participation in a dedicated in-person panel.

In addition, WEX will contribute to ECTAA’s wider programme of activities, including webinars, online workshops and in-person industry events, as part of the partnership’s broader engagement strategy.
